TEHRAN, April 14 (UPI) — Iran and Gazprom are expected to resume energy talks next month.

An energy delegation from Russia's Gazprom will meet with its Iranian counterparts next month in Tehran, said Deputy Iranian Oil Minister Hossein Noqrehkar Shirazi.

Development of phases 19, 20 and 21 of the South Pars gas field will be among the main issues to be discussed in the meeting, Shirazi said.

In a February meeting in Tehran, the Russian energy giant and the National Iranian Gas Co. reached an agreement to form a joint company to implement energy projects, the Tehran Times reported.

During the meeting Gazprom reportedly expressed interest in helping to develop the upstream and downstream sectors of Iran's energy industry and implement new liquefied natural gas projects.

"We are after broadening our cooperation with Russian companies as joint venture for development of oil and gas fields in the region," Shirazi said.

Phases six through eight of the South Pars field are expected to be operational by the end of March 2009.
