ImageJERUSALEM (AP) — Israel's Shin Bet security service says an Israeli citizen has been charged with passing information to Iranian intelligence agents.

A Shin Bet statement Thursday says the man contacted an Iranian diplomat while he was in Argentina. He passed on copies of his Israeli passport and ID card and offered to provide more information in return for money.

The man was arrested on Dec. 22 but the case was only made public Thursday. The statement identified the man as Mauricio Segal, but gave no other details.

This is not the first time authorities have arrested Israelis for contacts with Iran, Israel's staunchest enemy. In 2007, Israel said it exposed an attempt by Iran to recruit Iranian-born Israeli Jews as spies.
