MOSCOW (AP) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad postponed a planned Russia visit by one day but will make the trip Tuesday, the Iranian Embassy in Moscow said.
Ahmadinejad had been expected to travel to the Russian city of Yekaterinburg on Monday and meet with President Dmitry Medvedev on the sidelines of a regional summit.
Not long before his expected arrival, the embassy said Monday that Ahmadinejad would not come that day.
But it later said he would arrive Tuesday — the main day of meetings at the two-day summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Iran has observer status in the organization, which includes Russia, China and four former Soviet republics in Central Asia.
The change in plans came amid street protests in Iran following Ahmadinejad's re-election in a bitterly disputed vote Friday.
The Iranian Embassy did not give a reason for the delay.
