WASHINGTON (AFP) — The White House Thursday accused President Mahmoud Ahamdinejad of trying to make Iran's political crisis "about the United States" in a first reaction to his latest fiery speech.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama had previously noted that some leading Iranian political figures, were trying to use the United States as a foil in the post-election turmoil.
"I would add President Ahmadinejad to that list of people trying to make this about the United States," said Gibbs.
Ahmadinejad earlier told Obama to stop meddling in Iran's affairs and accused him of using language towards Iran similar to that of former president George W. Bush, the official Fars news agency said.
