ImageOTTAWA, July 6 (Reuters) – Canada hopes that G8 leaders meeting in Italy this week will agree to a common position on dealing with Iran, a spokesman for Prime Minister Stephen Harper's office said on Monday, calling Iran a "serious threat."

"One thing the prime minister will want to take to the G8 summit concerning Iran is that we obviously view the regime there as extremely dangerous, as a serious threat," spokesman Dimitri Soudas told reporters in a briefing ahead of the summit in L'Aquila, Italy.

"(We're) hoping that the G8 leaders are going to come together … and come out with a coherent position to deal with this dangerous regime — that also has a nuclear proliferation program — with a clear objective," he said. (Reporting by Randall Palmer; writing by Louise Egan; editing by Rob Wilson)
