ImageTehran, Iran, Aug. 24 – Iran’s former Minister of Intelligence has been selected as the country’s new Prosecutor General, according to the state-run news agency Fars.

Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei was appointed to the position at a meeting held on Sunday evening where the judges of the Iranian Supreme Court also selected Ayatollah Ahmad Mohseni-Gorgani to the position as Head of Iran’s Supreme Court, Fars said.

Ejei, the former Intelligence Minister, was late last month removed from his position as Minister of Intelligence following a publicised feud with Iran's President. The feud having centred on the President’s selection of Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie as his top choice for vice-president. A move which angered hard-liners following comments made by Mashaie which were perceived as being friendly towards Israel.

The selection of Ejei as Prosecutor General will do little to quell the widespread infighting which has developed amongst Iran's leadership since the disputed Presidential election, a Tehran analyst said.
