Iran Focus

Tehran, Jun. 10 – Hours after the United Nations Security Council adopted a fourth round of sanctions on Iran over its nuclear activities on Wednesday, some residents in Tehran’s western Pounak district chanted “Allah-o Akbar” (God is the greatest), “Death to dictator”, and “Death to [Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei” from rooftops.

Similar chants were heard from rooftops in Tehran’s northern districts of Mirdamad and Gholhak.

There was continuous disruption in satellite news programs broadcasting the deliberations and the vote in the Security Council. In several areas, satellite broadcasts, including the U.S.-based Voice of America’s Persian program, were completely cut off amid speculation that the authorities were jamming its signal.

Elsewhere in the northern town of Gorgan, eye witnesses reported that a group of young people tore down Khamenei’s poster from the entrance of a bank. Authorities sent members of the Bassij to the scene to remove the poster that had been torn to pieces before day break.
