Swiss ambassador briefly taken into custody, Iran media reports

CNN: Swiss Ambassador Livia Leu Agosti was arrested and released by Iranian authorities during a recent trip to the northern province of Khorasan, Iranian media reported Saturday.

Swiss Ambassador Livia Leu Agosti (CNN) — Swiss Ambassador Livia Leu Agosti was arrested and released by Iranian authorities during a recent trip to the northern province of Khorasan, Iranian media reported Saturday.

The arrest happened on Thursday when security forces, who did not recognize Agosti, took her into custody in the village of Kalaneh-Zamaneh, a Foreign Ministy official told the state-run Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting. The official, who was not identified by the network, said she was released “soon after coordinating with the relevant officials.”

The officials said Agosti’s trip had been approved by the ministry.

CNN was attempting to reach Swiss officials in Tehran on Saturday.
