AFP: An Iranian judiciary official on Monday denied reports alleging the arrest of opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, the Fars news agency reported.

TEHRAN, February 28, 2011 (AFP) – An Iranian judiciary official on Monday denied reports alleging the arrest of opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, the Fars news agency reported.

“A judiciary source has denied the arrest of the chiefs of sedition Mousavi and Karroubi,” Fars said, adding that the pair were at home and not in prison as reported by their websites.

“They are currently in their homes and are faced only with restrictions to contact suspect elements,” Fars said.

The websites of Mousavi and Karroubi had earlier Monday said the pair had been arrested and jailed at the Tehran’s Heshmatiyeh prison along with their wives.

“According to credible sources, the arrest and the transfer to jail is sure but the date when it occurred is still uncertain,” Mousavi’s Kaleme.com website said.
