Tehran, May 23 – China on Monday said it intends to increase ties with Iran in all fields and that it attaches great importance to this task in the future.
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who met with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi in Beijing on Monday, said Iran enjoyed a priority in China’s foreign policy.
Salehi described China as a new emerging economic power in the world, adding the two countries were “complementary powers in the world political arena”. He stressed Iran’s rich energy resources and the role this could play in China’s future.
Fars news agency reported that Salehi was also due to hold talks with senior Chinese officials about the latest developments in the region.
Salehi will then leave Beijing for Indonesia to attend the 16th ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Bali.
He is also due to attend a joint meeting with his Egyptian and Cuban counterparts during the NAM meeting.
