Iran election feuding: fake photo of election candidate surfaces

Iran Focus: Tehran, Jun. 08 – Fake campaign posters of one of the eight candidates running in the June 17 presidential elections are propping up across Tehran’s walls, according to an Interior Ministry spokesman. The latest smear campaign has been directed against Iran’s hard-line former head of the State Security Forces, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

Tehran, Jun. 08 – Fake campaign posters of one of the eight candidates running in the June 17 presidential elections are propping up across Tehran’s walls, according to an Interior Ministry spokesman.

The latest smear campaign has been directed against Iran’s hard-line former head of the State Security Forces, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

The posters feature a picture of Qalibaf wearing a tie, banned in the theocratic state on the grounds that it is too Western.

The picture has been ruining the reputation of the former Revolutionary Guard Commander, according to a spokesman in his campaign office.

Feuding among the eight candidates has reached an all-time-high ranging from numerous smear tactics to all-out assaults on campaign headquarters.

Vandalism is also a major issue, with candidates’ posters being graffitied, torn down, and on occasions set alight, however there is speculation that such actions are the work of ordinary people in the streets fed up with the entire election process.

The word “Boycott” is increasingly becoming a common feature on many posters or billboards advertising candidates.

With only days to go, neither the conservative or reformist factions have been able to rally around a single candidate of their chose.

Independent and state-run polls show that voter apathy presently is at an all time high.
