WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. officials are expecting Bulgarian investigators to link the militant group Hezbollah to a bomb attack last year that killed five Israeli tourists in the coastal city of Burgas.

Investigators are releasing a summary of their findings to the Bulgarian government Tuesday.

U.S. officials said Monday that the White House and State Department are preparing statements with the expectation that the Bulgarians will link the attack to Hezbollah. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the matter publicly.

One U.S. official reiterated Washington’s longstanding desire for the European Union to designate Hezbollah a terrorist organization.

Israel has claimed that Iran and Hezbollah played roles in the attack, in which a bomb ripped through a bus that was carrying tourists to their hotel.
