Obama says he hopes diplomacy can prevent a nuclear Iran, but all options are on the table

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — President Barack Obama says he hopes military action isn’t required to stop Iran from building a nuclear weapon.

But Obama adds that he would never take an option off the table to respond to the threat.

Obama held a news conference Friday in Jordan. The president was asked whether he’s prepared to deal with the fallout of a military strike, including Iran’s threat to raze cities in Israel if attacked.

Obama responded that the best resolution is through diplomacy, and he said the U.S. will continue to apply pressure in, quote, “a non-military way.”

He says if Iran is only pursuing peaceful nuclear power, it should find a way to verify that to other nations, so it can become a part of the international community.
