There have been 1000 deaths in Iran due to the coronavirus as of 8 pm local time on Monday, according to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

The MEK revealed that the following number of deaths have been reported to them:

  • 300 in Qom
  • 209 in Tehran
  • 100 in Mazandaran
  • 92 in Gilan
  • 61 in Isfahan
  • 58 in Golestan
  • 48 in Central
  • 45 in Kermanshah
  • 37 in Fars

There have also been several deaths reported in each of the following cities: Ahvaz, Andimeshk, Bandar Abbas, Baneh, Bonab, Bushehr, Chaypareh, Hamedan, Ilam, Iranshahr, Karaj, Kashmar, Khorramabad, Khorramdareh, Mahshahr, Malayer, Mashhad, Neyshabur, Salehshahr, Samaleh, Sarbandar, Semnan, Shahroud, Saqqez, Sorkheh Hesar, Tabriz, Urmia, Qazvin, Yasuj, Yazd, and Zanjan

Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has expressed concern over the spread of the Coronavirus. She urged the United Nations Secretary-General, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Human Rights Council, and other international human rights groups to take urgent action to save lives and prevent a major humanitarian catastrophe, saying that the regime is engaged in a cover-up and that Iranians blame the mullahs for this outbreak.

The MEK and their Resistance Units have rushed to support their infected compatriots, but without the proper medical equipment, they can only do so much. These medical resources and equipment are withheld from ordinary Iranians by the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and government officials, who are hoarding masks and the like to sell on the back market for ten times the price.

Rajavi said medical and healthcare facilities should be taken from the IRGC and given to healthcare professionals. She urged her fellow Iranians to stage protests and strike to any extent possible in order to express their anger.

This lack of medical equipment and care is also seen in Iran’s prisons, where overcrowding and limited access to running water or healthy food, has accelerated the spread of the coronavirus. The following prisons are known to be infected: the Greater Tehran Prison (Fashafouyeh), Gohardasht, Ghezel-Hesar, Central Karaj, Urmia, Shiban-Ahvaz and Kashan.

Inmates are denied masks and disinfectants. In some cases, not even soap and detergents are available. Still, the authorities refuse to allow political prisoners to leave or in some cases, even establish a quarantine. Many prisoners are infected, including Amir Hossein Moradi, a protester arrested in the November 2019 uprising.
