Tehran, Iran, Nov. 26 – A senior commander in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) shed light on the influence of the elite military forces loyal to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the country’s Majlis, or Parliament.

The director of Majlis Affairs Department of the IRGC, Brigadier General Massoud Motahar, told an IRGC weekly that the Revolutionary Guards had a duty to influence Majlis decisions to protect the achievements of the Islamic Revolution.

Motahar told the weekly Sobh-e Sadegh, run by the publications department of the Supreme Leader’s Representative Office in the IRGC, “The Majlis Affairs Department of the IRGC considers it its duty to give technical assistance to Majlis deputies regarding activities such as in the bill designed to support self-sacrificers, the regulations of the country, and decisions made in relation to the armed forces and the IRGC”.

Other bills to be voted for by Majlis deputies that the IRGC works to influence include those relating to the Ministry of Intelligence and Security – Iran’s secret police – and Iran’s nuclear efforts, according to the general.

Iran’s hard-line Majlis already motions bills favourable to the Revolutionary Guards since more than 80 of the deputies are from the IRGC.
