Tehran, Oct. 21 – At least 14 people have been killed and 24 others left injured in a road accident in Iran, state-run television reported.

The incident occurred when two buses had a head on collision on the road between Ahwaz and Khoramabad, about 520 km south-west of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

The report added that seven of the injured were in critical condition.

Iran has one of the world’s worst annual road accident rates, with and an average of 25,000 fatalities every year. The high toll is blamed on inadequate emergency services, unsafe vehicles, and poor road-safety management by authorities of the regime. Iran’s transport minister was impeached this month on the same day that another bus crash left 20 people dead.
