U.S. still opposes Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline

Reuters: The United States still opposes a natural gas pipeline linking Iran, Pakistan and India because of ongoing concerns about Iran’s nuclear program and support for terrorism, the White House said on Tuesday. WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States still opposes a natural gas pipeline linking Iran, Pakistan and India because of ongoing concerns about Iran’s nuclear program and support for terrorism, the White House said on Tuesday.

President George W. Bush had appeared to soften U.S. opposition to the pipeline last week in Pakistan when he said the main U.S. concern was over Iran’s nuclear program.

“As we stated before, the U.S. government does not support the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline,” said White House National Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones.
