Clashes in bazaar
Borazjan – Merchants and agents of the State Security Forces (SSF) clashed in the main bazaar of the town of Borazjan, in the Iranian province of Bushehr Thursday leaving a number wounded and resulting in the closure of the bazaar. Local residents reported that SSF agents ransacked many of the stalls searching for illegal merchandise. Clashes ensued and merchants closed down their stalls to protest their treatment.
Main oil pipeline on fire
Ahwaz – The main oil-pipe between the towns of Dezful and Ahwaz exploded in six different locations yesterday, after a crack was formed in the air-path and oil inside the vestibule caught fire. The incident happened 65 kilometres from the town of Ahwaz, close to the village of Koush. Blaze from the fire climbing several metres could be seen at six different points on the number 20 pipeline with gaps of 50 metres.
Gunfight in governors office
Ramsar The governor of the town of Ramsar (northern Iran) was shot and wounded Thursday, after an armed assailant stormed his office with a gun and took him hostage. Reports indicate that the armed man requested that the governor, Seyed Ahmad Miri, call all local officials, so that issues would be resolved without dispute. He was arrested before he had a chance to make any further demands.
University staff protest
Tehran – Working staff of the Teachers College University protested lack of pay in a gathering in front of the main university campus. The staff insisted that they would refuse to work until they were first paid. Government officials of the education ministry gave no indication they would be willing to pay wages for work carried out in the previous months.
Water protest
Shahre-Kord – Residents of the Mirabad district of the town of Shahre-Kord gathered in front of the provincial governors office in protest to shortage of drinkable water. One protester said that there are at least 1,500 homes in that region which do not have an adequate water supply. Those present at the demonstration stated that on many occasions sewage-water is fed through their homes water-pipelines.
