DUBAI, March 17 (Reuters) – A Sunni rebel group said on Friday it was behind an attack that killed 22 people in a remote region in southeastern Iran that officials had blamed on bandits, Al Arabiya television said.

A caller speaking for Jundollah (God’s Soldiers) said the group had attacked the convoy of a provincial governor, killing 22 soldiers, and took seven hostages, including a senior security official, the satellite channel said.

The group, which has kidnapped Iranian soldiers, demanded the release of members detained by Iran, Arabiya said.
