Tehran, Iran, Sep. 01 – A senior Iranian cleric called for naming a day of the year as “Hassan Nasrollah Day” as a tribute to the firebrand Lebanese Hezbollah leader.

“Considering the courage and heroism of Hezbollah and its leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrollah, Youth Day must instead be called Seyyed Hassan Nasrollah Day”, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati announced during Friday prayers in Tehran.

In July, the Lebanese militia mounted a cross-border attack on Israel, triggering a 34-day war which left 157 Israelis and 1,110 Lebanese dead.

The United States accuses Iran and Syria of providing money and arms to Hezbollah.
