Tehran, Iran, Sep. 08 – Iran said on Friday that sanctions imposed against it by the United Nations Security Council would have adverse effects for the international community.

“Imposing sanctions against Iran, which the U.S. is working to have happen, will harm the world and the region more than it will harm Iran”, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami-Kashani told Friday prayers worshippers in Tehran. His remarks were aired on state television.

The Security Council adopted Resolution 1696 on July 31 demanding that Tehran suspend all its uranium enrichment activities by August 31 or face the threat of sanctions.

Tehran missed the deadline and has consistently vowed never to abandon uranium enrichment.
