Tehran, Iran, Oct. 28 – Iran’s Supreme Leader appointed on Saturday a new chief for the Islamic Republic’s Air Force, state media reported.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed General Ahmad Mighani as the commander of the regular Air Force.

Mighani replaces General Karim Ghavami as the new air chief.

Iran has a dual military system with a regular Armed Forces as well as the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Both have their own Army, Navy, and Air Force and report directly to the Supreme Leader.

In September Iran’s Air Force held a series of military manoeuvres in the north-western province of East Azerbaijan. State media reported that an assortment of domestically-produced or optimised missiles were successfully test-fired during the war-games.
