AFP: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad heads to Qatar on Friday for the opening of 2006 Asian Games, an aide at the presidential office told AFP on Tuesday. TEHRAN, Nov 28, 2006 (AFP) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad heads to Qatar on Friday for the opening of 2006 Asian Games, an aide at the presidential office told AFP on Tuesday.

“President Ahmadinejad goes on a one-day visit to Doha to participate in the opening ceremony of the games and meet with the Qatari emir (Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani),” Ehsan Jahandideh said.

The 15th Asian Games will be held in the Gulf emirate from December 1-15 with more than 13,000 athletes from 45 nations.
