TEHRAN – Iran’s conservative-held parliament has decided to investigate the activities of the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance, one of the few institutions still run by reformers, the official news agency IRNA reported Monday.

According to the report, deputies in the parliament’s culture committee approved a probe into the ministry’s supervision of film, theatre and music festivals.

Culture festivals approved by the ministry and involving foreign artists have in recent months drawn the ire of regime hardliners. The report said that IRNA, which is also run by reformists, would also be investigated over its sources and editorial policy.
