Yasuj, Iran, May 20 – State security forces have stepped up their presence on the streets in the southern town of Gachsaran.

The heightened security is in apparent reaction to a series of anti-government activities by opponents of the regime.

Security forces maintain a constant presence in the streets and routinely change shifts.

In recent weeks, opposition activists have made a concerted effort to distribute anti-government leaflets inviting the population to take part in major rallies next month to mark the anniversary of the nationwide uprising last June.

Political graffiti, including some calling for ‘death’ to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, have become common features on walls lining the pavements.

Iran’s main opposition has called for nationwide protests from 10-20 June.
