London, Mar. 12 – Russia will reconsider its position on Iran’s nuclear activities after Tehran announced it was no longer interested in a deal from Moscow aimed at solving diplomatically the international standoff over the Islamic Republic’s suspected nuclear weapons activities, Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday.

“Moscow will study the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s statement on the proposal to enrich uranium on Russian territory, after which it will adjust its position on this issue”, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said, Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti reported.

“Meanwhile, Russia continues to speak for the peaceful and diplomatic settlement of the Iran nuclear issue”, Kamynin said.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman announced, “The Russian proposal is no longer on our agenda”.

The International Atomic Energy Agency referred Iran’s nuclear dossier to the United Nations Security Council earlier this week for non-compliance with the agency’s demands.

Tehran faces possible punitive measures by the Security Council over its refusal to cooperate with the IAEA on its suspected nuclear weapons program.
