Tehran, Iran, Sep. 20 – More than a dozen people were killed on Wednesday as a minibus slammed into a truck in south-eastern Iran, state television reported.

The accident occurred on the Ravar-Mashad Highway in the province of Kerman at approximately 4.30 am local time.

At least 13 people were left dead and 16 others injured in the crash.

The report said that the 21-seater minibus was carrying 34 passengers.

The head of Iran’s traffic police Brigadier General Mohammad Rouyanian announced in June that the expected death toll from accidents on Iran’s highways for the current year stood at 31,000.

Iran’s highways are considered to be among the most dangerous in the world, with some 100,000 road-accident deaths occurring in the last five years, the equivalent of three deaths an hour.
