China hoped an international meeting with Iran on October 1 "will achieve results" in easing tensions over Tehran's nuclear program, Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei told a news conference at the Group of 20 summit in Pittsburgh.

"As a U.N. Security Council member, China is very concerned about this matter," He said of the latest revelations over Iran's nuclear activities.

The Security Council has the power to authorize sanctions against such activities but He stressed that China favors negotiations.

"All of these problems ultimately can only be resolved through dialogue and negotiation," said He, adding that China favored a "dual track" approach of pressure and talks.
