ImagePITTSBURGH (Reuters) – The European Union backed a U.S. statement critical of Iran's nuclear program on Friday and urged Tehran to work to solve a dispute with other countries who fear Tehran is developing atomic weapons.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said in a statement: "In view of today's announcements concerning Iran's nuclear program, the upcoming meeting on 1 October is more important and necessary than ever. At this meeting, we expect Iran to engage fully in order to resolve the nuclear issue. I fully endorse the joint US, British and French statements earlier today."
