ImageMOSCOW (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev discussed the outcome of talks in Vienna over Iran's nuclear programme by telephone on Saturday, the Kremlin said in a statement.

"Medvedev emphasised the significance of the U.S. statement where it said that it was ready to provide written guarantees for the scheme of exchanging uranium for scientific reactor's fuel, proposed by Russia and the U.S.," the statement said.

Iran ignored a U.N. deadline on Friday to respond to an international draft deal for it to cut an atomic stockpile the West fears could be used for weapons, and challenged the basis of the pact.
