The U.S. dismissed as a “public relations stunt” Iran’s invitation to representatives of the European Union and other powers for a tour of its nuclear facilities.

State Department spokesman Philip J. Crowley described Iran’s offer as a “magical mystery tour” that won’t address the issues that are of concern to the U.S. and other nations regarding Iran’s uranium enrichment.

Iran resumed nuclear talks last month in Geneva with the so-called P5+1 nations — United Nations Security Council permanent members China, France, Russia, the U.K. and the U.S. plus Germany — after more than a year. The second round will take place in Istanbul, though the parties haven’t set a date.
