WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry is offering a sober assessment of the new round of nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers.

Kerry told a Senate panel on Tuesday that he’s not expressing optimism as negotiations resumed in Vienna, less than three months before the informal July deadline for reaching an agreement.

Kerry insists that the U.S. and other world powers have an “amazing capacity” to understand what Iran is doing through inspections. Kerry said that Iran was likely about two months away from being able to produce enough material for one nuclear bomb, though would not necessarily have the ability to deliver a nuclear weapon.

The scope of Iran’s uranium enrichment program is the toughest issue in the talks.
