NEWPORT – European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana said on Thursday the bloc would support referring Iran to the United Nations Security Council over its nuclear activities “if necessary”.
“If the situation continues … we will go the Security Council but we will have to discuss that today,” Solana told reporters as he arrived for a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
Solana said the EU was looking first to a board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency in a few days.
“We will see what comes out of that but be ready to go to New York if necessary,” he said.
