Tehran, Iran, Dec. 26 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki blasted on Monday “nuclear apartheid”, saying that the Islamic Republic had just as much “right” to carry out nuclear activities as the United States did.

The Fars news agency, close to the Office of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, quoted Mottaki, who arrived in Kabul today, as saying that Tehran would not accept such “nuclear apartheid”.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has called on Iran to suspend nuclear fuel cycle activities, fearing that it may be seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

The United States and the European Union have threatened to refer Tehran’s nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council if it did not heed to the IAEA’s demands.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, however, told reporters that Tehran had the support of a number of other countries in its nuclear pursuit.
