Tehran, Iran, Jan. 31 – Iran threatened on Tuesday that it would end all voluntary cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog if its nuclear file was reported to the Security Council.

“Ali Larijani, Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council, told reporters after a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Youssif Bin Alawi that if Iran was reported or referred to the Security Council it would spell the “end of diplomacy”. “This action is not positive”, he added.

Commenting on the announcement by representatives of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany who stated on Monday that they were seeking to report Tehran’s nuclear file to the top UN security body, Larijani said, “The Europeans must be more careful”.

“If the issue ends here, the EU will stop us from solving the issue through talks”.

In threatening language, the top Iranian national security official added, “If the EU goes down the path of confrontation, they may well be the ones that start the process, but it is not certain that they will be the ones that end it. Therefore, this path will not be very much in the benefit of the EU”.
