London, Feb. 01 – British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw got an earful when he met with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki who threatened that the Islamic Republic would stop implementing the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty’s Additional Protocol if its nuclear file was referred to the United Nations Security Council.

The two officials met in London as the West geared up to report Iran’s nuclear non-compliance to the Security Council.

Mottaki told Straw that the threat to report Iran was politically motivated, Iran’s official state news agency reported.

The decision would not only end Iran’s voluntary cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency but will seriously damage the compromise plans proposed by Russia, Mottaki warned, according to IRNA.

“The Additional Protocol will be the first casualty”, he said.

The Iranian Foreign Minister repeated the position made by other senior Iranian officials that Tehran saw no difference between being referred to the Security Council or reported to it.
