London, Mar. 31 – United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has welcomed a “Presidential Statement” adopted by the Security Council over Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program.

The Security Council’s unanimously adopted a statement on Wednesday giving Iran 30 days to suspend all of its uranium enrichment activities and resume its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Annan welcomed the “spirit of consensus” by the members of the Security Council in the statement on non-proliferation, a spokesman said on Thursday.

The UN chief “hopes that Iran will heed the international community’s concerns, as reflected in the Council statement, regarding Iran’s nuclear program and that it will cooperate fully with its obligations under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and successive International Atomic Energy Agency resolutions”.
