Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe on Wednesday expressed discomfort with Iran’s enriched uranium development.

“It was extremely regrettable, if it was true, that Iran has successfully enriched uranium. The move is against the message of the United Nations Security Council and International Atomic Energy Agency board of directors,” Abe told reporters in Tokyo.

Regarding the investment by a Japanese company in Iran’s Azadegan oil field, Abe said that Japan has to make efforts to convey the fears of the international community to Iran and eliminate the fears as relationships between Japan and Iran are friendly, the Asahi Shimbun reported.

His remarks came after Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared Tuesday that Iran has successfully enriched uranium for the first time and has joined the club of nuclear countries.
