Tehran, Iran, Apr. 25 – Iran’s top nuclear negotiator said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic would “suspend” its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) if the United Nations Security Council imposed sanctions on it over its nuclear ambitions.

“If they attempt to impose sanctions on us, we will suspend our relations with the agency [IAEA”>”, Supreme National Security Council secretary general Ali Larijani said at a conference in Tehran aired on state on television.

“If [the West”> thinks that it can halt Iran in its path by threats, they should analyse this to see what will happen”, he said.

“A clear framework must be considered with our understanding, otherwise our actions will break the framework”, he said, adding, “If they use the language of violence or bullying against Iran, they should not expect a soft reaction from us”.

In comments directed at the West, the top aide to hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Tehran had become “allergic” to suspension of its nuclear activities, adding, “We are in a new situation”.

Last month, the Security Council adopted a “Presidential Statement” unanimously giving Iran until April 28 to suspend all of its uranium enrichment activities and resume its cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog.
