London, Aug. 22 The United States ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton accused Iran on Monday of violating the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and obstructing nuclear inspectors.
Nothing surprises me about the way Iran treats its obligations under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which it’s been violating for many years now in its pursuit of nuclear weapons, Bolton told reporters when asked for a reaction to a report on Monday that Tehran had turned away nuclear inspectors.
They’ve obstructed the work of the IAEA repeatedly in Iran. They’ve concealed things from the IAEA inspectors. They’ve falsified data. They’ve destroyed facilities. So more obstruction doesn’t surprise me at all, he said.
Bolton also said that Iran and Syria should stop providing arms to the Lebanese militia Hezbollah. That’s consistent with [UN Security Council resolution”> 1559. That’s an obligation they’ve routinely broken, but it’s an obligation they should comply with now, he said.
Asked whether it was time to speak with Hezbollah, Tehran, and Damascus regarding Lebanon, Bolton bluntly replied, No.
