Tehran, Iran, Oct. 17 – European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani held talks on the diplomatic impasse over Tehran’s nuclear program, Iranian state media reported on Tuesday.

The state-run news agency ISNA said that the two officials spoke on the phone on Monday.

Solana said on Tuesday in Luxembourg that he still had hope that negotiations with Tehran could recommence despite a decision by key United Nations Security Council nations to seek a resolution imposing sanctions against the Islamic Republic because of its nuclear non-compliance.

“It is up to Tehran to accept the conditions to start serious negotiations”, Solana said.
