Tehran, Iran, Jan. 01 – United Nations Security Council resolutions imposing sanctions will not deter Iran from its nuclear pursuit, a senior Iranian ayatollah announced.

“This cruel resolution will not stop Iran from obtaining peaceful nuclear technology”, Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi-Amoli said, referring to Security Council Resolution 1737 which imposed mild sanctions against Tehran for failing to suspend its uranium enrichment activities as had previously been demanded of it.

“No resolution against Iran will affect the Iranian nation’s conciseness”, Javadi-Amoli said during an Eid sermon on Sunday. His remarks were reported by the official news agency IRNA. “The Islamic Republic will not retreat from its just rights”, he said.
