Iran Focus: Tehran, Apr. 16 – Anti-government protests erupted yesterday through the night in the city of Ahwaz, southwest Khuzestan province in Iran, leaving at least six people dead and hundreds injured or arrested. Ahwaz, close to the Iraqi border, is a major hub of Iranian ethnic minority groups, and its largely Arab population has faced brutal repression undere clerical rule.

Iran Focus: Tehran, Apr. 15 – A teenager was sentenced to death for a crime he is alleged to have committed when he
was 17 years old, according to a state-run daily.
The boy who was only identified by his first name Saeid is to
be executed shortly, the Ettemad daily reported.

Iran hangs serial bank robber
AFP: Iran on Thursday publicly hanged a serial bank robber who killed a policeman during a clash with security forces, the afternoon daily Kayhan reported.
Ghobad Siah-Mansour was found guilty of several armed bank robberies in the central city of Ispahan and was hanged in the neighbouring town of Najaf-Abad.

Voice of America: Iranian President Mohammad Khatami recently escorted a group of international journalists around parts of Iran’s underground nuclear facility at Natanz. The existence of the secret uraniumenrichment plant at Natanz was first disclosed by an Iranian opposition group in exile in 2002. That disclosure alerted the International Atomic Energy Agency, or I-A-E-A, to Iran’s clandestine nuclear program.
