Tehran, Apr. 14 – Nearly a quarter of the more than 825 people discovered sleeping in the streets of Tehran who had been rounded up during the last four months had received good education according to the Director of Social Risks Department of Tehran’s Governorship.

Mohammad-Reza Fardin announced that of the 825 people rounded up at least 177 graduated from high school, and 12 people had University degrees or higher.

Iran’s streets are full of homeless people from all sectors of society, thousands of which are in Tehran.

Fardin said, “These people included persons suffering from mental illness, the elderly, physically handicapped persons, and those without care or with bad care, such as drug addicts, women, and children”.

Despite sitting on a sea of oil, Iran has one of the poorest social aid systems.
