Tehran, Aug. 13 – From the Grapevine…

Political activists in Tehran earlier this week filled public sites with anti-regime graffiti. Slogans condemning the authorities and inviting people to participate in further protests were written in a number of areas in the Iranian capital.

These areas included the northern corner of Azadi Square, Parcham Street, Nosrat, Laleh, Valadkhani, Shahriar and Shokri, Daryan-e No, Golestan and Pars streets in the vicinity of Sharif University, as well as Azizi, Akbari, and Salehi streets, according to the activists.

Some of the slogans specifically targeted the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and welcomed international sanctions against the theocracy for refusing to give up its nuclear weapons program.

Slogans included: “Wretched Khamenei, sanctions benefit the people – Protests on 3 September”, “People aren’t terrified of sanctions, Khamenei is”, “Death to Khamenei, down with the principle of absolute clerical rule – Protests on 3 September”, and “Protests will continue, killer Khamenei has nowhere to escape”.
