Tehran, 24 April (AKI) – A court in Tehran issued on Tuesday a suspended jail sentence for two women’s rights activists who had taken part in a rally last June in favour of legislation changes promoting equal opportunities for women. Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani and Parwin Ardalan were sentenced to two years in prison with a suspension of the punishment for taking part in the demonstration in which activists demanded among other things that women be allowed custody of their children in case of a divorce.

Another two women’s rights activists, Fariba Davoudi Mohajer and Susan Tahmasebi, have just been sentenced to four and two years in jail respectively for taking part in the same demonstration.
