Tehran, Iran, May 16 – Iran’s Minister of Education survived a vote of confidence by Majlis (Parliamentary) deputies on Wednesday, the official news agency IRNA reported.

Of the 238 Majlis deputies who took part in the vote, 89 supported the motion for Mahmoud Farshidi’s impeachment, while 132 deputies opposed the motion. Seventeen deputies registered blank ballots.

In April, several lawmakers handed in a petition to Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, calling for Farshidi to be summoned to explain his overall poor performance during his 18 months as Education Minister.

Senior Majlis deputy Reza Talai-Nik told reporters Education Minister Mahmoud Farshidi was to be summoned before the Majlis for his overall poor performance.
