Tehran, Iran, Jun. 01 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived in Damascus on Thursday, where he held talks with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, Iran’s state media reported.

Mottaki later met Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem to discuss Tehran-Damascus bilateral relations.

Regional allies Iran and Syria are both accused by the United States of being state sponsors of terrorism.

Mottaki’s trip came hot on the heels of the decision by the UN Security Council on Wednesday to set up a tribunal to prosecute the killers of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.

Saad al-Hariri, the son of Rafik al-Hariri, accuses Syria of orchestrating the murder.
