Tehran, Iran, Oct. 08 – An Iranian Vice-President has been nominated to take over as the Islamic Republic’s new ambassador to Syria, it was announced on Monday.

Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Ahmad Mousavi was selected as Iran’s next ambassador to Syria, state-run news agencies quoted Mohammad Ali Shahidi, an Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, as saying late on Sunday.

Hard-line Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad must still approve the appointment.

Regional allies Iran and Syria are both accused by the United States of being state sponsors of terrorism.
