Nov. 21 (Bloomberg) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel will urge exporters to further restrict trade with Iran to pressure the Islamic Republic to end its nuclear program, according to Bild Zeitung.

Merkel, in an interview with the daily newspaper published today, said “much has already been done” by German banks such as Deutsche Bank AG that have reduced involvement with Iran.

“With regard to specific other products, I will keep up efforts to get industry to curb exports,” Merkel was quoted by the newspaper as saying. “In foreign policy, we mustn’t allow a conflict between our values and our business interests.”

Merkel has said Iran faces increased sanctions if it doesn’t make its nuclear policy more transparent. The U.S. and other Western governments accuse Iran of using its power program to mask development of nuclear weapons.
